Longtime friends Mary, Sam and Pat talk drawing, poetry and animation, and the life of an artist.

Mary Reid Kelley and Patrick Kelley combine painting, performance, and Mary's distinctive wordplay-rich poetry in polemical, graphically stylized videos. Mary and Patrick’s videos have been exhibited in solo exhibitions at the Fabric Workshop & Museum, Philadelphia, Tate Liverpool, the Baltimore Museum of Art, Kunsthalle Bremen, The High Line, New York, MUDAM Luxembourg, the Hammer Museum, the ICA Boston, and SITE Santa Fe. Group exhibitions include Haus Der Kunst, Munich, CCA Warsaw, and MACBA Barcelona. Mary and Patrick’s work has been reviewed in The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, The Guardian, W Magazine, La Reppublica, Vogue, The New Yorker, Artforum, Flash Art, Frieze, ARTnews, and Art in America. Mary and Patrick live and work in upstate New York. Their 2016 film, This Is Offal, won the Baloise Prize at Art Basel. Mary is a 2016 MacArthur Fellow.

Sam Messer has been exhibiting paintings, sculptures, prints and animations for four decades. Over the years Messer has become known for creating iconic bodies of work. He has also collaborated with writers including, Denis Johnson, Paul Auster, Jonathan Safran Foer, Brother Richard Hendricks and Sharon Olds.
